January 31, 2012

Pics to come at some point...I did what I could, but it was tricky trying to take pictures and watch two kids. And when I could get a picture of both of them, it was usually just their backs to me because they were looking at animals! :) So, they aren't the most exciting pics, but I did get a couple ok ones, and a couple cool animal shots.

OK, so not the normal blog post today, and I'm running late. Sorry! But here's the general scoop on the day:

We hurried through breakfast so that we could hop in the car and get going...to the zoo! The car ride down was great. The kids are amazingly good for that amount of time. I think it helps to have them sitting next to each other. Flora naturally had her socks and shoes off and thrown beside her and on Sammy (a usual habit). :) We found a parking spot ($8...eeeeee! Thanks, Adriane, for the money. I did end up using it for parking. I think I forgot how much a trip to the zoo actually costs once you add up everything), and we were at the gate almost exactly at 9am, opening time. The first exhibit we hit was the elephants, and I think that was their favorite. Samuel looked on in awe, and Flora made elephant noises.

The day only got better from there. We saw goats, sheep, cows, giraffes, lions, reptiles, manatees, penguins, polar bears, and more. I was glad that I took the backpack despite having the double stroller, as I used both. Most of the time, I had Sammy in the backpack and that way he could see (eye level) and then my hands were free to lift Flora from the stroller to see the animals. Sometimes they were both in the stroller, though, so I was grateful for both.

The kids were exceptionally well behaved all day long. They lasted about 3 hours when Sammy finally fell asleep in the backpack, and so I decided it was time to go. The weather was just absolutely perfect for walking around the zoo, and hardly anyone was there. The kids are also at a perfect age for being fascinated by the animals. So much fun!

The ride home was great, too. Thanks for packing finger food. It worked as a perfect distraction, and so they both were good and stayed awake the entire ride home.

Funny story. Just to make sure that food wasn't everywhere and that the kids were staying awake, I took a short break at the animal shelter parking lot on 27. I thought I would save myself some time and go ahead and change both of them so that when we got home, they could go straight to bed. Well, 1. I had to change them in the back of the van, which I faced toward 27, not thinking that every car that drove by would get mooned (oops!), and 2. 15 minutes later when we arrived home, they had both pooped in their diapers, so I had to change them again anyway. hahaha What else did I expect? As Andrea often points out, with kids, you can make plans...but most of the time it just won't work out quite as you thought it would. :)

So that's the scoop. They both ate well today, and Flora napped for about an hour and Sammy about 1:45.

Flora and Sammy were fascinated with the water fountain.

Sammy's hair was outrageous today...!! :)

A few things we did today: Store and Millet

General notes: The kids are now strong enough to turn on the water faucet at Millet, so they had fun doing that today.

I am thinking about going to the zoo tomorrow…the weather looks much more promising, and the forecast hasn’t been changing. This may mean the kids’ schedules are off a bit…their nap may be a little bit later than normal depending on how long we last at the zoo. If you can pack a lunch with mostly finger food that the kids could eat on the way home, that would be awesome. I hope to be out of the house by 7:45 tomorrow morning! :)

Sam found a crack.

A few things we did today: we stopped by Wal-Mart on our way out to the Hueston Woods Nature Center! That took up quite a bit of the morning. We also made healthy cookies.

General notes: The kids LOVED the turtles!! They were fun to watch at the nature center. There wasn’t a whole lot to do (as you probably know already), but it kept us occupied for 30 minutes. A worthwhile trip! It also made me excited to take them to the zoo when we get a chance. I think they are just going to go crazy over the animals! :) Also, the kids seemed to enjoy jazz music today. I put it on by accident, but they both were jammin’.

A few things we did today: We went to Miami parking (check notes for an awesome discovery!), then to Millet. Otherwise, the norm.

General notes: So, I found out that if you are not a student, faculty, or staff of Miami, you can get a free parking pass. Yep, that’s right! Why didn’t we know about this? Well…I think Miami keeps it on the down low because they don’t want a bunch of people getting free passes. Anyway, you can pretty much park anywhere with the pass (besides the obvious, like handicap spots), and the pass is good to the end of the semester, and then you can get another one for the summer, and so on. Did I mention that it’s FREE?!?! Crazy! If you need more details, just ask me.

No Pics Today.

Name: Flora
Date: 1-24-12

Snack 1: 10:20, some apple, some rice chex, and some cereal with dried fruit
Nap 1:----
Lunch: 12:10pm, all cheese, all hummus, all grapes, all blueberries, all carrots
Nap 2: 1:15-2:15
Snack 2: went home with Grandma!
BM: 11:30am
Special notes: When Flora wanted Sammy to get into the kitchen so they could eat today, she ran into the other room yelling, “Come on, Sammy!” :) Wow, she’s moving on to complete sentences!!

Name: Samuel
Date: 1-24-12
Arrived: 7:45am (woke up at 7:55am)
Breakfast: all of banana/PB/oatmeal mix, all of bread
Snack 1: 10:20, rice chex, a little apple, cereal and dried fruit, 1 PB ball
Nap 1: ----
Lunch: 12:10, all cottage cheese, some Mexican rice mix, most sweet potato, most mixed fruit, a little banana
Nap 2: 1:20ish-2:15
Snack 2: 3:15, blueberries and pretzels
BM: during nap, 2pm
Special notes: Sammy was MUCH less clingy today at the Tri. He grew up a lot over break! He was happy and smiling and running around without me. It was wonderful.
Sammy didn’t nap very long today, so I let him stay up there a while. I even went up and changed him and found his blanket on the floor. I thought maybe then he would go back to sleep…no such luck. Sorry if he is grumpy tonight! I think he keeps waking up because of his coughing. He sure looked tired, just couldn’t sleep I guess.

A few things we did today: Went to the grocery store, went to the Tri! Sammy and I also backpacked.

General notes: Both of the kids are great at the Tri. It is fun to see them run around and play with other kids. They still don’t play “with” other kids too much, but more than before, and they are very well-mannered. Flora and Sammy both love looking at a little tiny baby that comes to the Tri. Milo was there, too, so we had a great time.

I talked to Brad about possibly taking the kids to the zoo on Friday. It is supposed to be mostly sunny and in the 40s, so I thought we could handle that. This would mean putting the seat in the back of the van, and it would mean messing up their sleep schedule a little bit. I wanted to check with all of you before I made that decision. Let me know!

Nap 2: 1:30-3:20

Special notes: Flora is definitely saying “Sammy” most (if not all) of the time now!

Name: Samuel
Date: 1-23-12
Arrived: 7:30am
Breakfast: 7:30am, ate ALL that oatmeal!, plus most of a banana
Snack 1: 10, mix (nuts, pretzels, cereal, etc.)
Nap 1: ----

Nap 2: 1:25-2:40
Snack 2: 3:20, more mix
BM: not yet
Special notes: Though the words are usually incorrect, Sammy seems to enjoy repeating all kinds of words when I say them. Also, Sammy fell in the tunnel today and bonked his face pretty good. He has a little mark on his lip from the fall.

A few things we did today: we finally got to go for a walk! :) Otherwise, the norm.

General notes: The walk today was PERFECT! We hit it just right when it was sunny and warm…the kids just seemed to soak it up. Sammy rode in the backpack and Flora was in the one-man stroller. It was sooooo nice to get out, and I think the kids agreed. It makes me wish for spring already! :)

January 20, 2011

Happy Birthday, Andrea!!

Name: Flora
Date: 1-20-12
Arrived: 7:10am
Breakfast: 7:15am, a few bites of egg and all of the English muffin
Snack 1: 9:45, cereal and dried fruit
Nap 1:----
Lunch: 12:05, all grapes, all cheese, all carrots, all applesauce, all blueberries!
Nap 2: 1:00-2?? (I checked at 2:11 and both were asleep, and I was downstairs where I evidently couldn’t hear them because they were both awake when I came back up around 2:35, but seemed like they were just waking up)
Snack 2: 2:45, random mix (nuts, pretzels, dried fruit, etc.)
BM: 2:55pm
Special notes: Flora is using “please” in her statements! For example, today at breakfast, she said “help, please” when she needed help, with no prompting.
The last couple of days, Flora has patted her behind and said “butt!” She threw a loop in it today when she patted the front and said “butt!” ha I wasn’t sure what you guys have decided you want to call this part of the body, so I just said “ummm…sort of!” So, just let me know what vocabulary you would like to use, and when she asks, I can at least respond appropriately. Thanks. :)
Also, Flora is out of wipes if you think to send some more next time. Thank you!

Name: Samuel
Date: 1-20-12
Arrived: 8:30
Breakfast: already ate
Snack 1: 9:45am, grapes
Nap 1: ----

Snack 2: 2:45, apples
BM: not yet
Special notes: A couple times today Sammy said “Flora” and it sounded somewhat like two syllables. He’s getting close I think! :)

A few things we did today: played with Milo and Brad! It was a fully 2-hours, and none of the kids got fussy. Crazy! Otherwise, besides playing with Ben for a few minutes, pretty much the norm today.

Pics of Sammy from break

Andrea, a few pics from over break that I never gave to you. Figured I would just post them on here.

This was funny. Spencer was trying to teach Sammy how to put on his sock, and Sammy was so interested!! ...

But the lesson went awry when the sock went on the hand rather than the foot. Check out Spencer's face...that is his "OK, I'm done trying now" look. :)

January 18, 2012 PICS

Play-Doh! :)

Flora likes to do this in the chair: rock forward and then rock back and put her feet straight in the air!

Sammy enjoying the box!

Arrived: 7:30am

Breakfast: 7:25am, most of banana mixture, slice of bread

Snack 1: 10:05, crackers

Nap 2: 1:05-2:30

Snack 2: 2:50, bread and cheese

Special notes: Sammy has now added some kind of vowel to his “Ffffff” for “Flora.” It now sounds like “Fwoah!” :)

A few things we did today: Today I cook, so we went to the store, also played with play-doh, did some music stuff, etc.

General notes: We used to visit with Milo on Wednesday, but I think they have a different schedule this semester. Looks like we will start meeting with them on Thursdays or Fridays. They both seemed to enjoy the play-doh much more this time than last time. Maybe it is time to try the finger paint again… :)

January 17, 2011

No Pics Today.

Nap 2: 1pm-2:10

Snack 2: 2:30, nut mix stuff

BM: 12:45pm

Special notes: Adriane, we did work on saying “please.” Also, Flora is funny with thunder. I’m sure she has done this for you…but today any time it would thunder, she would lay on the floor with her butt in the air and just listen until it was gone. It is also REALLY FUN to watch her dance! We even danced to some classical music today. Sometimes she would sway with her arms, but then suddenly she would break out in her usual "fast stomp" dance. So fun! :)

Date: 1-17-12

Arrived: 7:30am

Breakfast: already ate

Snack 1: 10, PB cookie thing and pretzels

Special notes: Sammy woke up crying today…not sure what was wrong. I thought he still seemed tired, but he wouldn’t go back to sleep. He got better as the afternoon progressed. Maybe he just had a bad dream. Otherwise, he was great today. Love the box! :)

A few things we did today: we spent some time doing some musical stuff today, played in the box, read books, threw balls, etc. We decided to just hang around the house today. The kids were great!

General notes: Kids were great today!
